One of my favorite places to scout the upcoming season’s fashion trends are the Neiman Marcus preview shows (see here and here). It’s a fun atmosphere that usually delivers plenty of inspiration. Since lately my OOTD consist of yoga pants or old basketball shorts around the house (hello #newmomlife), a little fashion inspo is much-needed.
This fall trend report is a great way to kick off the upcoming fashion weeks as well as ease the pain of summer coming to an end.
On to the good stuff!
Fall Fashion Trends 2017
I actually thought this one was on its way out (or at least it was for spring/summer) but it’s back and as bold as ever.
The Leather Jacket
A timeless trend, right?! I love a good leather jacket and this season you’ll find it everywhere from embroidered to luxe.
Velvet has appeared for the last couple of seasons but I doubly appreciate it in the fall. It’s a heavy, more luxurious fabric that I think lends itself better to the months with a chill in the air.
This is a twist on a trend that has lingered the last couple of years. The structured fabrics with the suit-like look. I have to admit it’s not one of my favorite trends. However, I do like the more modern fabrics and textures that give this style a bit of a boost.
The Covered Leg
I feel like I sound super old when I say this, but I adore this trend! During the show, it was explicitly said that we are going away from the no-nylon, naked leg fashion rule, and covering our stems up this season. Fishnets or tights, it’s encouraged to buck the naked trend. I’ve always loved tights and am A.OK with having some help covering up those imperfections. 😉
Booties is another trend that isn’t going away. They mentioned the socks over booties trend as well. Honestly, I haven’t seen anyone in Seattle rocking these since it came out a year or so ago. Is this the year?
Plaids and Camo Green
Especially for guys, but not to be left out of women’s fashion this season are plaids and greens.
Other elements I saw and heard throughout the show were metallics, leopard prints, and big jackets. The puffer jacket even appears to be making a comeback! The 80’s are having a big impact in 2017. I love eighties music but I can’t say as much to its fashion, so I’ll have to make these trends my own.
These are the fall fashion must haves for 2017. I’m looking forward to trying some of these this season and showing you what I come up with…and on a budget! How about you? What’s your favorite upcoming fall fashion trend?
