Have you ever had those super crazy months where life totally gets you out of your routine? That was my June. Our little one made her arrival 3 weeks earlier then planned. Needless to say, it shook everything up and I wasn’t able to get back to blogging for a bit. Which is why I’m sharing pre-baby posts after the fact. Turns out, it’s a lot harder to churn out blog posts with a screaming infant and sleep deprivation lol.
Even though it’s a little late, I definitely wanted to share about a baby shower that was thrown for me because it was amazingly perfect! The theme was “Heaven Sent” and although that was referring to my soon-to-be little girl, it could have been equally applied to this baby shower and the friends that threw it.
A Heaven Sent Baby Shower
This shower had been on my radar for a long time. I’ve shared on here openly about our struggle with infertility and journey with IVF. So it was more than a surreal feeling that I was actually going to a shower that was for me. One that I didn’t have to fight feelings of sadness mixed in with the happy. It was 100% happy on this day. Even the weather wonderfully orchestrated the perfect day, and in May in Seattle that’s far from guaranteed.
As I stepped into the venue on the shores of Lake Washington, I was greeted with a room full of pink perfection. Angel wings, halos and clouds were in every detail and if you’ve paid attention to this blog you’ll remember that I have bent toward the angelic ;-).
I also love pink and since my girlfriends have mostly boys, they took full advantage of splashing the color everywhere like it was going out of style. Needless to say, Olivia’s pink portion of her wardrobe is now well stocked!
You can see all the attention to detail that went into the decor. Onesies and baby tutus (how cute are those!?) lined walls and counters, while angel-winged diaper cakes and cloud infused centerpieces topped tables. I was blown away at the attention to detail, and how many of the decorations (like diapers and clothes) I was able to take home and enjoy.
Catering to my sweet tooth, the seriously delectable desserts also played into the heaven sent theme. Even angel food cake made an appearance :).
What I thought really put this shower over the top were the different stations. Like a cardio circuit but for baby showers! :). These stations not only provided things for guest to do (a BIG hit with the younger guests), but they also turned into gifts that keep on giving going forward. Like pieces of advice, personalized and hand-drawn bibs, diapers with words of wisdom, and DIY adorable headbands in different sizes. Who needs cheesy shower games when there are activities like these, am I right?
I was spoiled beyond belief by all the cute gifts for baby, but besides the presents and the extravagant shower, I was extremely touched to be surrounded by so many friends that are deeply important to me. I had a different family shower that was wonderful too, but this heaven sent baby shower was special because they were all people who came from different parts or paths in my life. My chosen family, my tribe, all gathered to celebrate this miracle that made its way into my life. A miracle that they were a part of along the way, cheering, encouraging, and lending support in different ways. It’s truly amazing that I didn’t cry more than I did! It was a day that I will never forget and always appreciate.
