Music is powerful. It has the ability to soothe, inspire, energize and so much more. Mandisa is a Christian artist whose 2013 “Overcomer” inspired millions. She actually wrote it to encourage her friend who at the time was battling cancer. What I didn’t realize, was that her friend ending up passing away, sending Mandisa into a spiral of depression. Three years later, she is crediting God and people in her life for pulling her out of the pit she was in by releasing “Out of the Dark”.
I’ve had the chance to review her new CD, as well as my latest favorite pregnancy outfit of the day which actually have some similarities :).

As soon as I started playing Mandisa’s “Out of the Dark”, I was hooked. It has the same qualities that drew me into “Overcomer”, inspirational vocals and uplifting beats! Her talent and passion shine through from the very first note.
My favorite is track 2, “I’m Still Here”, although Out of the Dark is right up there. They both speak to perseverance and how there is still a story to write in our lives, even when it feels like there’s no coming out of whatever dark place you’re in. She also teamed up with some gospel powerhouses in Kirk Franklin and Toby Mac for “Bleed the Same” which speaks to our current climate.
There is some talking on the CD that I’m not a big fan of (let’s get to the music!) but usually, you could just skip to the next track if you weren’t feeling it.
Overall, I loved Mandisa’s “Out of the Dark” and whether I’m working out or need a spirit boost, it is sure to be a 2017 favorite!

“Out of the Dark” OOTD
One of my favorite go tos this pregnancy has been this wrap that I found at Nordstrom. It’s super soft and comfy and the wrap design is perfect for working around a growing bump. I also have a thing for stars, so when I saw this pattern I was already in wardrobe-swoon mode. My self-discipline didn’t stand a chance that day :(.
What I love about this print is that to me, it encompasses that same feeling that Mandisa’s Out of the Dark does. Even when life was dark (infidelity, divorce, infertility, etc.), my story was still being written. God used people and His power to pull me out and show me life. Literally :). The stars still came out and lit up that dark night sky.
I’ll let you in on a little secret. My biggest pregnancy style hack has been wearing certain dresses as tops and this is a perfect example. Okay, okay, it’s also a favorite tall-girl hack but it’s doubly relevant right now ;-). This is actually a wrap dress! I style it as a maternity top and it’s worked out perfectly.
Whether it’s music or clothes, I think it’s wise to keep little reminders around that there’s still good in this life. Even with all the bad that surrounds us on a daily basis. There’s still light and so much to live for.
