As I’m sitting here writing this post, I’m having a hard time grasping that it’s really August! It’s a little bittersweet; I see the sun going down earlier and earlier. So I’m taking one day at a time and trying to really enjoy each moment as it happens. What comes to mind when you think of this month? If I had to pick one word to describe August it would be warmth. It’s usually one of Seattle’s warmer months, but it’s not just temperature that I’m talking about. August feels warm on other levels too; time with family, barbeques with friends, and nights cozying up by the fire. It’s just a month that warms my heart :).
For these Chasing posts, I love to look ahead at fun events as well as set up my goals and intentions for the upcoming month. To see a list of fun National Days you can check out last August’s post here.
Some of the ones I’ve bookmarked are as follows:
1st – Girlfriends Day
2nd- Ice Cream Sandwich Day
3rd- Watermelon Day
4th – Chocolate Chip Day
6th – Root Beer Float
8th – Happiness Happens Day
9th – Book Lovers Day
10th – Lazy Day, S’Mores Day
13th – National Garage Sale Day
19th – Soft Ice Cream
26th – Dog Day and Women’s Equality Day
The August Low-Down
What else it happening this month beside a bunch of random days that give me an excuse to eat sugary food?
Of course we have the Olympics starting up. Can I tell you how much I love the Olympics? I’ll stay up way to late to watch random events that I know nothing about; but it’s the Olympics so suddenly they are all-important. In pondering why I love them so much, I think it’s a mixture of my competitive nature, love of sports, inspiration at what the human body can do, personal stories, and seeing the world come together in this one event. With all the negative press leading up to this year’s games, I’m apprehensive that 2016 is going to be a big letdown. I wait 4 years for this! Here’s to wishing safety and health for all those involved with the Rio Olympics.
See the full schedule here. If any of you are fans of The Skimm, and use their calendar app, you can merge the events right into your google calendar on your phone. Thank you, The Skimm! The Opening Ceremony is this Friday, August 5th 🙂
“The Hills” 10th Anniversary Special. Tuesday, August 2nd. I can’t even tell you how excited I am for this haha.
Burning Man August 28th
US Open Starting August 29th
NFL Pre Season Training Camp is in full effect. Get your fantasy research started!
If You’re in the Seattle Area….
Full calendar of events here. The big Seafair finish is this weekend with the air show and hydroplane races and I’m also looking forward to seeing Gwen Stefani and Eve perform later this month. There’s still plenty of time to get your summer in with outdoor movies, festivals, hiking and beach combing galore. It’s no reason summer’s here in the PNW are action-packed!
Listing out goals here helps keep me more accountable; I feel like I fail less when I put them out into the inter webs :).
Book a venue for Eric’s Party – Nailed it! Phew. Now it’s time for the details.
Finish Capsule Wardrobe/Closet Project – Nailed it! This was so much fun and I’m excited to show it off to you all this Thursday on the blog. To see the video sooner you can find it on my Facebook page.
Finish the Hiking Master list and go on at least one – Nailed it! Well, pretty much. There are a few things I need to polish up off the list but thanks to my hiking friends I have a list that will keep us busy for years. We also hiked twice this month.
Drink daily intake of water – Failed it. Again:(. I had many good days this month, but not nearly enough.
Get at least 3 days of exercise in week – Failed it. No excuses:(. Better, but still not there.
Work on things off of the summer bucket list – Nailed it! I’ve already had S’Mores, swam in a lake, gone on boat rides, hiked, been on a rooftop with friends, and a beach at sunset.
Get through IVF retrieval – NAILED it! Giving myself injections was not fun but I made it though that part and now we are giving my body time to relax after those meds to prepare for the transfer in September.
Get moved into our new place. Frankly, this should be the only goal I set this month because it’s such a huge on! We are moving about 25 minutes away but that doesn’t stop it from being a huge pain.
Create a working budget. Between moving and IVF this summer has been cray. We really need to buckle down and see where to carve things out. Bye, Starbucks :(.
Keep Calm and Get Through August. This. Mental goals are goals too! Among all the other fun I just listed, we are going back to Montana (where my in-laws live) and have a very action packed time already set for us. This will also be the weekend that I start giving myself injections again. Oh, and we will be in the process of moving in. Dealing with stress is a lifelong learning process, and this month is definitely giving me a lot to learn with :).
Research Fantasy Football. Eek! It’s that time already. The time where I have to rewire my brain to associate players with their new teams and find out who the rookies stars are hiding. I love this time of year, and am excited to bring you guys a new sports series in September. Stay tuned!
There are more but those are the big ones. Wish me luck, angels! How does your month look? Any intentions you want to set? Trips you’re excited to take? Leave them in the comments below, and have a great August ;).
