It’s no secret that I enjoy a good superhero movie and the Avengers series is at the top of that genre. So I have been excited for this date night (and seeing Civil War) for some time. Especially considering the last two dinner and a movie date nights led to movies that were just okay. If you’re new to these posts, I take a current movie that’s a sequel or part of a trilogy or series, and I create a date night at home where we watch the previous movies leading up the current one that we’ll go see on a different night. Technically, this Avengers movie, Civil War has a plethora of superhero movies that contribute to its background. For time’s sake, we decided to zero in on three. Captain America 2, Ant Man and Avengers Age of Ultron. The dinner itself was themed after the core Avengers characters. I had to limit it somehow because we can only eat so much food :).
Avengers Themed Dinner and a Movie Date Night
Avengers Themed Food (Menu)
I’m *supposed to be eating pretty healthy this month since I’m on the TIU 8 week Challenge so I didn’t want to go overboard with this dinner. It also was on another week night so time was limited. For throwing this together last minute it was actually a lot of fun!
Iron Man Hamburgers
About as easy as it gets, seasoned hamburger patties on top of lettuce and/or a tomato. Open faced because the shining star is the cheese cut to look like Iron Man….kind of :). Removing the bun was also a healthier option. I used Provolone on top of Cheddar. If you follow me on Snapchat (chasingmyhalo) you may have seen these bad boys cooking up.
Captain America Fruit Shield
This one is floating all over Pinterest, but unlike when I unsuccessfully tried to copy the SuperMan S on a pizza for last month’s post, this time, it actually looked pretty similar!
Black Widow Spidered Deviled Eggs
I Love this character. Like, LOVE. Every time I see Natasha Romanova/Black Widow in a movie I love her even more. She’s pretty much the queen of bad ass, yet she looks so good doing it. My kind of girl. Plus, she’s a red head so…..instant woman crush and of course, Halloween costume :). For this date night though I didn’t wear my Halloween costume (I like themes but that would be too much for even me) but I did make sure to give Black Widow her own part of the meal with her Spidered Deviled Eggs.
I swapped the inside filling for hummus and created the black olive spider from more Pinterest inspiration. A diced red bell pepper was used for the red middle.
1 Bunch of Kale
2 cups coconut water
1 cup of cocoa nibs
I blended all the ingredients together except for the Nibs which I sprinkled on top for the hair look. Best served cold.
Iron Man “Skolebrod” Dessert
My first attempt at a Norwegian dessert! This vanilla custard Skolebrod recipe looked really good and I was excited to try it. After all, my strange-looking last name is Norwegian and that’s my hubby’s ancestry so I should start building my repertoire. What better way to start than in the name of Thor? My idea was to shape these in squares and top them with a cookie handle for his hammer.
It all looked pretty great…in my head. In reality, these were super dense and pretty bland, even with the custard. I’m sure it was something I did wrong. I don’t have the best luck with recipes containing yeast. Friends that came to my Murder Mystery Party can attest to that. My homemade calzones turned into a last-minute emergency delivery as the dough was trying to rise to the ceiling! As far as resembling a hammer, I hope you all have good imaginations! :).

Avengers Themed Tablescape
Blue and red tablecloths
Avengers “place mats” and coasters (made from cutting up gift bags)
Iron Man Mask (you mean you don’t have one lying around like we did?)
Orange chargers (found in the dollar area of Target)
Pretty simple tablescape this time. If this was a party or a weekend affair I could have done it up but let’s be real, it was a Monday night after a long day’s work. Simple it is!
Avengers Themed Outfit
Again, no themed outfit this time but you can check out my Black Widow costume I made here.
Avengers “Civil War” Review
I give this 5 (out of 5) Halos.
LOVED it! I haven’t been disappointed yet in these movies. Plenty of action, humor that’s weaved throughout in such a brilliant way, an actual plot and great cinematography. I particularly loved the new character they introduced, Black Panther. No spoilers here but I look forward to future movies with this character for sure! Spiderman was also introduced into this Marvel Series on the Big Screen. If you haven’t heard the plot, basically the Avengers end up teaming up against each other out of principle over government control (in a nutshell). It’s a little heart-wrenching seeing the band of hero’s fight against one another and I was torn because I could see each side. Team Cap? Team Iron Man? I’m like Team Iron Cap :).
Anyway, go see it!
