2016 is new and full of promise. So maybe I’ve already messed up on my eating plan, but I’m giving myself grace and pushing forward to make this year a good one.
Besides giving you some fun January dates to celebrate, and visiting my monthly goals, I want this “chasing” post to be a little different. I’m going to lay out some of my big goals for the year, and let you in on some of what you can expect from this blog. Some of it is based on my early reader survey results (a BIG thank you to all of you who have taken it so far, and if you haven’t you can find it at the end of this post!), and some of it is still in the works, but I’m going to run it by you all first because we’re in this thing together!
To begin, here are some of the fun “National Day of” dates left in January to celebrate. Or at least my favorite ones!
Favorite January National Days
January 8th – National Bubble Bath day.
So.Much.Yes! If I could I would take one every day.
January 9th – (2nd Saturday of the month) National Vision Board Day
Every year I set out to make one of these. My attempt last year was pretty lame. Looks like I have a weekend project to tackle!
January 11th – National Milk Day
January 13th – Make Your Dream Come True Day
January 14th – Dress Up Your Pet Day
Now it’s socially acceptable. YES! Big dogs can do clothes too 🙂
January 15th – National Hat Day and Strawberry Ice Cream Day.
January 19th – National Popcorn Day
In my world that means it’s also National Trip to the Dentist Day lol.
January 20th – National Cheese Lover’s Day.
I can do without a lot of things, but sadly cheese is not one of them.
January 21st – National Hugging Day
January 23rd – National Pie Day
January 24th – National Peanut Butter Day, Compliment Day
January 25th – Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day
January 26th – National Spouses Day
January 27th – National Chocolate Cake Day
January 28th – National Blueberry Pancake Day
January 29th – National Puzzle Day
I really enjoy puzzles and jeopardy, so the nursing home should work out just fine 😉
*January is also hot tea month, soup month, and oatmeal month. I’m sensing a warming trend here…:-)
December Goal Check
I love these type of posts because they keep me accountable, and sometimes other people’s goals will even inspire me in some way.
- Try to enjoy each moment this month, and not get stressed checking things off my list. Nailed it.
- Finish the majority of the blog posts I have scheduled Nailed it. At least I improved drastically from November. There have been one or two that I didn’t get up, but for the most part I stuck with it.
- Finish Living Well Spending Less book – Almost nailed it? I’m so close. There are a lot of applications in this book, and I’m trying to really work through each chapter.
- Mail off Christmas cards – Nailed it, at least before Christmas 🙂
- Do weekly advent studies with Eric – Almost nailed it. We did this half the month, but not on our trips.
- Finish the applicable November goals – Failed 🙁
- Squat challenge – Um, failed it.
- Finalize winter bucket list (to be posted this week) – Nailed it! You can find it here.
- Work on New Years Resolutions – Nailed it.
I tend to go way overboard and make way too many resolutions. At the end of the year I couldn’t tell you all my goals I started with to begin with. NOT the best way to meet your resolutions. So I am going to pick one big one in each area of my life and try to tackle it. It goes along with trying to live a life of balance.
Meal prepping on Sundays.
This will be a lot easier when football season is over, but I know for me this habit is the key to healthy eating. I get off work fairly late to begin with, and if I have to grocery shop by the time I get home I am starving, exhausted, and am not in the mood to chop of vegetables.
I plan on making mason jars my best friend.
Establish a morning and evening routine.
You will hear more about this in the upcoming weeks, but there is a WORLD of difference when I structure the beginning and ending of my day. Making it an everyday thing will be the challenge.
To read twice as many books as I did in 2015.
This shouldn’t be hard considering I was at a rather sluggish pace. 12! Gah! I’m hoping to mix some personal growth books in there as well. Manda from Manda’s Mis is tackling 52 Leadership books in 2016, so I’ll have plenty to choose from!
To spend more one on one time with the important people in my life.
This can be tricky with busy lives, but connection is important.
Environmental (House, city etc.)
To finish my “wardrobe room”.
I want to put up a vanity table in my clothes room. To help take the sting out of not having the need for a baby nursery (yet) I’m turning our second bedroom to my closet/beauty space. Making lemonade out of lemons people!
Finish the Bible in a Year.
This has been on my bucket list forever. Last year I made it 40% of the way. That means really I only need to read 60% in a year. I’m determined!
To further monetize this blog while staying authentic.
I have lots of smaller goals under this umbrella, but that sums it up best.
I love blogging. I truly do, but it takes so much time. My dream is to get this space to the point that I can work from home, at least part-time, but I refuse to sell out to do so. One of the readers in my survey used the word authentic to describe this blog, and if I could have reached through the screen to hug her I would have. That is the biggest thing I want to get across whether I am doing a sponsored post or baring my soul.
What you can expect from Chasing My Halo in 2016
So far from the survey results most of you want to see more lifestyle and personal posts, and less sports post (some of you also wanted less pet posts). It’s funny because sometimes when I am writing a weekending post I’m worried that it comes across like I’m bragging. I’m also thinking “who really cares?” Apparently, you do, and I love you for it! So I will keep up with my weekending posts, and try to add more bits of my personal life throughout the year.
For the sports posts, I won’t be bringing back the sports rewind posts next season. There will be less sports talk this year, but that’s not to say sports related posts will be completely gone. I am a huge fan, and that passion will crossover to this one from time to time. So to my readers that do appreciate sports (thanks Mom and Crissa lol) thank you for cheering me silently on, and for the ones that aren’t raving fans there will be less in the coming year!
Interestingly enough, the pet posts were split in half. Half wanted less, and half wanted more. I get that not everyone is an animal person, and so I don’t take offense to it. I also don’t know that I’m going to change it that much either. I usually do one about every other month or so, and that’s what you can expect again. My feelings won’t be hurt if you don’t visit that day, and for those of you that want more it’s a little fix.
- A themed dinner and a movie date series (which will include recipes, décor etc).
- A “Digital Detox” Experiment Series
- More beauty and fashion related posts.
- Weekending posts on Mondays
- Goal posts at the beginning of the month
- Posts on balance and organization (I will share as I learn)
- Health and Wellness posts
- Book Club posts
- Favoring Friday (but not necessarily every Friday)
As I’m learning to live to my fullest potential, I hope that you find something here that helps you on your own path. Progess, not perfection :).
