I was given a copy of this movie in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine alone.
When’s the last time you watched a movie that made you feel good down to your core?
My husband and I watch (an embarrassing) amount of television in my opinion. So when we get the chance to mix some family friendly, faith-based media in the rotation I welcome it. This opportunity came in the shape of Pure Flix’s Faith of Our Fathers review.
Faith of our Fathers was about two men who had lost their fathers in the Vietnam War, and were on a road trip to discover more about the men they never knew. What they ended up discovering about themselves along the way was far more than they had ever expected. An unlikely pairing led to an adventurous road trip with lots of ups and downs.
There are themes I really loved about this movie; connecting with our past, the love of fathers, sacrifices veterans made, unlikely friendships, and of course the overriding theme of the love of God. The plot and acting were decent, and several recognizable faces graced the screen. However, there were some pretty laughable moments such as an “aged” Stephen Baldwin that was not at all believable, a couple of obvious green screen scenes, and a remarkable resemblance to Lloyd and Harry in Dumb and Dumber. Seriously, the two main characters even rode sidecar at one point!
This movie is PG-13, and the only reason we could think of was some of the war scenes. It’s a very family friendly movie though, and I hope that more and more of these faith-based movies are made because they keep improving.
Regardless of the less than stellar review from film critics, I still took away a lot from this movie. In this Faith of Our Fathers review, I gained an appreciation for how different people are placed in our lives, and that we really are all connected. I was encouraged by the love of fathers, and the depth of love from our Father from above, regardless of what family life looks like here. It caused me to look at relationships a little differently.
With Veteran’s Day coming up this week, it would be a great time to watch this film! The DVD is out, but you can also enter this short but sweet giveaway to get one sent to you for free. Enjoy!
