It’s no secret that this girl has a major affinity for the sweeter things in life. Which can make eating healthy an enormous challenge during the holidays :-(. Halloween kicks them off with a shout, showing off its sugar laden temptations at every turn.
While I can’t sit here and proclaim that I say no to every Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup that crosses my path, I can honestly say that I like to have healthy alternatives. When the big cravings hit, something sweet but not processed and sugary is the key to quieting my inner sugar demon. In the likely situation that I’m unable to resist the temptations and end up going past the point of no return, it’s also nice to have something that can ease me out of my sugar coma. Gently. Pepto Bismol land is not a place I like to visit anymore if I can help it!
My Healthy Halloween Smoothie can accomplish both of those feats; it’s sweet without being sickly, and it will make saying no a
lot little easier. Think of it as a little Halloween hack :-).
The great thing about smoothies is that they are easy to make, quick, and often times you will already have the ingredients. During the fall pumpkin is a staple, we always have coconut milk on hand, and the only ingredient I had to get at the store were the oranges!
Unsweetened shredded coconut and cacao nibs are something that I also have in my pantry. They may not be amazing on their own, but can really sweeten up dishes when mixed in! This is how the smoothie gets its chocolate taste and speckled festive color.
As for the coconut…in my opinion it makes everything taste better:)
The great thing about smoothies is that it is so easy to customize with your favorite ingredients. Are you a smoothie lover? What are your favorite foods and items to throw in?
