In my ever ongoing quest to become more organized, I am tackling one area at a time. My latest achievement in progress is the home filing system and mail organizer center.
I’m following Home Storage Solutions 101 52 Weeks Challenge, and although I’m going at my pace I find each week’s challenge description super helpful. As part of the Home Mail Organizer Center they recommend using a Tickler File. Basically, it’s a way to keep track of daily to-dos. Have a bill that needs attention? Slip it in the day it needs to be mailed or paid online. Birthday for a friend coming up? Put a reminder post it or Bday card under the date you want to mail it.
I still use my tech toys to put reminders, dates, etc, but this is another way to keep things in order because honestly there are so many things on my phone that I can easily miss a notification.
Your tickler file can be made from whatever works for you. I started with a plastic, portable filing cabinet but what I discovered was that I wasn’t checking it very often because it was out of sight and that makes the whole thing pointless! I then transferred my purple file folders to a storage box that would look good next to my couch. That way I can be sure to check it daily when I am watching TV or snuggling smothering Bella.
I got this storage box at Target and then transferred my hanging file folders.
Behind the ticklers are my main files where I keep medical forms, manuals, etc.
The nice thing about it being portable is that I can just bring it upstairs when I’m in my “office” by the home mail organizer. Otherwise, it stays near the couch. My house is pretty small so I needed something that works for me but is organized and practical.
How do you organize your mail and upcoming to do’s? Are you solely tech? What does your home office organizer system look like? I’m always searching for tips!
