I adore my city. Take away the horrid traffic, parking, and housing prices, and The Emerald City really is a gem! I used to think that the best time here was July to October, but these last few years our nice weather has started earlier and earlier. This whole spring has been fantastic, and when the skies are blue and the sun is out Seattle is absolutely breathtaking. If you find yourself in the area when the sun is out here are some of my favorite things to do during a Seattle summer (and now spring)!
Ok so maybe I’m partial because I can’t get enough Beach Volleyball, but Alki offers more than that. You have mountains, the city skyline, Puget Sound, and enough people watching to occupy you for hours. It’s our closest thing to a beach scene. Check out Blue Moon Burgers and the new outdoor seating next time you are there! If you go during SeaFair you can also take part in the revelry and watch the pirate ship come in. ARGH!
Ferry + Picnic
There are multiple cute places and islands just a ferry ride away. Pack up a lunch and explore! Vashon Island is close to where we live in West Seattle so that’s a favorite. Or head to Bainbridge Island which is where we got engaged!
Play Along the Pier
Be a tourist for a day and take in the smell of saltwater as you choose what you’d like to do along the waterfront. Since I’ve done the Aquarium and Pike Place my fair share, I like to have dinner at the Crab Pot followed by a ride on the Great Wheel at sunset (or vice versa).
All summer long at multiple locations the Seattle area offers these inexpensive and often themed movies that make me feel like a kid again. Make sure to bring a blanket because our nights still get cold!
Festivals and Fairs, Oh My!
There are too many to count, but every weekend there is something going on. Strawberry festival, Highland Games, Solstice, Art Fairs, Dragon Boat festival, the list goes on. I usually drag the hubs to one or two each summer.
Enjoy a bonfire at Golden Gardens
I haven’t done this one in a while, but nothing screams summer nights more than a campfire under the stars! Golden Gardens is our other sand beach, but even a friend’s backyard or fire pit will do!
There are so many places to do this it’s ridiculous. Every year I want to do more than I do. Hopefully, I will be more intentional this spring and summer!
Get on a Boat
Rent a paddle boat at UW, get on a Sailboat for a day (captain included), or find a friend with a boat. The best place to be during a Seattle summer is near or on the water.
Attend a Mariners Game
Ok so maybe they won’t win, but the park is gorgeous and you can bring in your own food. This comes in handy with Krispy Kreme being within walking distance. Not that I’ve done that or anything….
Stroll through a local Farmer’s Market
They are everywhere. Grab a friend and a coffee (or Chai for me!) and hit up a Farmer’s Market.
Drive to the rainforest or peninsula. Check out quaint towns you didn’t know about. There are so many places within a few hours drive that are worth checking out.

Have a safe and wonderful Memorial Day Weekend!
