2015’s word for me is hope, with an emphasis on being intentional and positive. Have you ever noticed when you try to pick something to work on life throws a bunch of obstacles your way to make it harder? Like praying for patience. THAT’s a fun one ;).This year is only a month old but already I’ve had plenty of opportunities for hope and a positive attitude. Sadly I think I’m going to need a few more till I actually get it.
Luckily I have yet another chance to practice positivity during my most depressing month as a sports fan. Football is officially done, and when your team loses the Super Bowl it puts a big exclamation point on that fact. Soccer and baseball haven’t started yet. Basketball is still underway but that in itself is painful when your Sonics have been stolen (and that’s a whole different post). The point here is that for a sports lover, midwinter until March Madness can be pretty bleak. Not to mention the weather and lack of vacation time. But I’m all about hope and focusing on the good right? At least that’s the goal :), so I’m finding the joy in February and sharing it all with you!
- It’s award season!
I may be sports-obsessed, but I also love me some glamour and glitz! Rarely have I seen the movies nominated, but I really enjoy the fashion circus that is award season. One of these days I am going to throw an Oscar party just because. Or go out with some of my girls dressed in gold, red carpet optional . Whatever ;). The Grammy’s are this Sunday February 8th, and the Oscars are Sunday Feb 22nd.
2. Valentine’s Day.
I tend to think about this holiday last-minute, but I have nearly two weeks this year so no excuses! Even if you don’t have a special honey to celebrate with, some of my favorite Valentine’s memories were actually in my single years. Love comes in many forms so even if you don’t do it the Hallmark way it’s a good time to look around and appreciate.
3. Chinese New Year.
Ah, the day that all my Asian friends growing up received money :). This holiday has always intrigued me and this year it’s on Thursday February 19th. Check out events in your area, or at least give it a nod by eating authentic!
4. Art Walks and Fun Runs
Even though it’s still cold in many cities, you start to see more Art Walks and Fun Runs (5Ks) pop up. Seattle happens to have a bit of both, including Cupid’s Undie Run which is exactly how it sounds. People get crazy in the winter! Needless to say I’m not doing that one, but I will be getting back on my workout routine with the #TaketheLeap Yoga challenge I’ve been talking about.
5. Get a jump on spring cleaning.
Now that football season is over I have real time on Sunday afternoons! All the more reason to catch up on all the projects I’ve put off in favor of fantasy stats and Seahawk chat.
6. Reclaim Sundays
I try to make Sundays/Sabbath a day of rest, and while I can say that I don’t really work on Sundays during football season (and I do enjoy the fellowship of family) my mind has a hard time being restful. Now is a chance to focus on the mindset of resting. I’m even doing a small series on this blog all about resting and rejuvenating on a weekly basis. I’m talking bubble baths, meditation, music, you name it. Stay tuned!
There are so many books I want to read this year and it never feels like I have enough time. Might as well use this slow sports/bad weather month to get some knocked off the list! See what I’m talking about here.
Any February favorites that you have? Let me know!
