I took this picture with my regular Power Shot Cannon. For some even more stunning shots of the Oregon Coast follow seagirl49 on Tublr.
There are a lot of houses available to rent for your beach vacation, but I’d suggest booking ahead of time as they get reserved fast. Beachhouse1.com is just one helpful site. Try to get one in walking distance of the promenade for convenience sake.
A great, large greasy spoon-like restaurant that is must stop for breakfast is Pig N’ Pancake. It’ hard to miss because of the long line wrapping outside the front door. Don’t let that deter you, it moves surprisingly fast and you will have your Crepes in no time!
A favorite lunch or dinner stop is Big Kahuna Pub & Grill, an adorable little piece of Aloha where you can grab a good burger and a tropical drink if you’d like. Prices are decent and the staff is really friendly. As a bonus, right next door is an ice cream shop if you are craving something sweet!
A little off the path is a restaurant you should go to at least once for the ambiance. If you are a meat lover, as my husband is, even better. Big Foot’s Steakhouse is a fun stop where you may or my not spot one yourself. It is pretty squatchy :-).
Every year on our way to the beach, we stop at a coffee shop at the bottom of the Worldmark Hotel (by the pools). You don’t have to stay there, and they use fresh, local ingredients. Grab a mini quiche to go with your morning coffee and sweet lemon bar. Yum!
Things To Do
For this weekend, of course, our goal is volleyball and there are nets everywhere so that’s pretty much what we do, but when the nets aren’t up there are plenty of beachy things to do. Flying kites, renting a beach cycle, and pretty much anything you can think of that is beach related, you can find in Seaside.
Inside Carousel Mall, along with some shops is a (gasp) carousel! To get ready for your trip, how about watching the classic movie “carousel”, which also has some beach scenes to get you in the mood. 🙂
There is also an aquarium along the prom that is popular for letting the public feed the seals.
Listing of Things to Do (you can find more information here).
A lot of places close early, even for a weekend, so a fun night-time activity is bonfires on the beach (away from the nets!). Look for a sign along the prom for people selling firewood. I saw one sign this year that also sold fixings for s’mores as well!
What to wear
Really anything you want. Dress in layers for the wind and random temp factor, and get some type of hat that you like. Beach hair will naturally be achieved, but you can also use a texturizing spray ahead of time. Styling tip: go easy on the spray and products. If it is windy (which it usually is) the wind in combo with the spray can create a bit of a rat’s nest in your hair.
Lastly, here are pics to prove we were there for volleyball and not just the taffy, really! 🙂
Prepare yourself for some amazing sunsets, and soak up summer the Seaside way!
P.S- Seaside is very close to Astoria, where the movie Goonies was filmed. If you are a fan you can see the house where it was filmed!
